We are looking for a new EDI Trustee (3 years) to join our Board of Trustees!
We would like to invite our members to nominate themselves for the position of EDI Trustee (3 years) within our Board of Trustees. Becoming a BABAO Trustee is an opportunity to become more engaged in the fields of biological anthropology and osteoarchaeology in the UK. Specifically, BABAO trustees should represent these fields, and work to steer and support our community.
How do I nominate myself?
- Open to all members of the association who paid their membership fees of the current year.
- Send an email to president@babao.org.uk and secretary@babao.org.uk with a 250 word statement outlining your interest and suitability for the post.
- All applications must be seconded by a BABAO member, please include their name and email on your application.
- Deadline for applications is Sunday 12th October at midnight.
If you are potentially interested in the role and have any questions about it and the current/past work of the EDI sub-group, please do get in contact with Matt Lee at edi@babao.org.uk.
When is the role starting?
The EDI Trustee will take up their post immediately.
What does the role entail?
Main duties include but are not limited to, the following areas:
- Chairing and leading the EDI sub-group (this meets roughly 4 times a year virtually)
- Acting as the EDI representative on the Board of Trustees (this meets roughly 4 times a year, primarily virtually)
- Developing programs and work packages with the EDI sub-group that can benefit and/educate the BABAO membership on EDI issues within and/or which are relevant to BABAO.
- Working with the Grants Trustee to review the Diversifying and Decolonising Osteology and Biological Anthropology (DDOBA) grant applications to ensure that they meet the intended aims of the grant.
- Working with BABAO conference or event organisers to ensure that accessibility is considered throughout the planning and implementation of the event.
Please be aware that if no one is elected on this occasion, the trustees have agreed that the EDI sub-group will go into a hiatus until someone does run for the role. We would really like this not to happen as the membership gave positive feedback on the work of the EDI group in the last EDI survey (earlier this year) and feel like the EDI group has brought about positive change to the association.
The EDI sub-group is always happy to welcome new non-trustee members as well. If you are interested and would like to join or just give it a go and see if it is for you, please email Matt Lee (edi@babao.org.uk) and the EDI sub-group secretary Dr Alice Rose (edisecretary@babao.org.uk). They can then give you more information about the group and add you to the mailing lists.
