We are looking for a new Secretary (3 years) to join our Board of Trustees!
We would like to invite our members to nominate themselves for the position of Secretary (3 years) within our Board of Trustees. Becoming a BABAO Trustee is an opportunity to become more engaged in the fields of biological anthropology and osteoarchaeology in the UK. Specifically, BABAO trustees should represent these fields, and work to steer and support our community.
Each new trustee must complete an induction process, which includes completing accredited online training in: Role of a Management Committee; Equality and Diversity; and GDPR and Confidentiality. They will be given a hand-over document, written by their predecessor, which must be maintained and updated throughout their tenure. The trustees typically meet four times a year (within the UK), with at least one of these meetings being in-person, the rest are virtual. All trustee business uses our Google Drive. Trustee activities and behaviours must comply with our Standard Operating Procedures and policies (e.g. GDPR).
How do I nominate myself?
- Open to all members of the association who paid their membership fees of the current year.
- Deadline: Friday 27th June 2025.
- Send an email to president@babao.org.uk with a 250 word statement outlining your interest and suitability for the post.
- All applications must be seconded by a BABAO member, sent via email to president@babao.org.uk
The nomination statements will be sent out together with the voting link to the membership. Please only state your name and do not include any further personal information in your statement, as the statement will be shared with our entire membership. The election will take place the week after the nomination deadline, and the results will be announced shortly after. The newly elected trustee will be taking over the role immediately.
When is the role starting?
The Secretary will take up their post immediately.
What does the role entail?
Main duties include:
- Prepares and sends out the meetings’ agenda for the three annual committee meetings and the AGM to all committee members, takes the minutes during these meetings, collates and makes editorial changes and sends the finalised minutes to the Communications Officer, who places the minutes on the BABAO website.
- Manages the election of new committee members by sending out calls for nominations for new committee posts and announcing the results of the elections at the AGM and to the membership via the BABAO emailing list.
- The post-holder is one of the signatories for cheques and holds a debit card in the Association’s name.
If you have any questions, please get in touch with our President, Jelena Bekvalac at president@babao.org.uk
